Onboard Detection and Correction of Orbital Registration Errors Using Rover Imagery
نویسندگان
چکیده
Orbital imagery is a key component in planning and executing rover missions. It can be used to predict hazardous terrain, target science objectives, or plan traversal paths, yet the utility of these products is crucially tied to their registration accuracy relative to a rover’s location. Misregistrations of orbital data can lead to problems ranging from unsafe navigation to incorrect or misleading science findings. As rovers become more autonomous it is important that techniques are developed to perform onboard reasoning about terrain information in real-time. This paper outlines a multiresolution approach for detecting and correcting for orbital misregistration errors. Using a path generated from a series of navigation camera images, a mapping is made to high-resolution orbital imagery. This high-resolution imagery is then linked to lower-resolution multispectral imagery, and a direct transformation from the rover’s ground location to highand low-resolution imagery is recovered.

Matching Sparse Networks of Semantic Rois among Rover and Orbital Imagery
The ability of rovers to localize themselves on a global reference is of high importance for the evolution of future robotic space exploration activities. This is why ESA has funded a research through the Network/Partnering Initiative (NPI) to conceptualize and develop methods concerning the global self-localization of rovers. The approach followed in our NPI activity is the one of the distinct...

متن کاملPreprocessing of hyperspectral imagery with consideration of smile and keystone properties
Satellite hyperspectral imaging sensors suffer from ‘’smile’’ and ‘’keystone’’ properties, which appear as distortions of spectrum images. The smile property is a center wavelength shift and the keystone property is a band-to-band misregistration. These distortions degrade the spectrum information and reduce classification accuracies. Furthermore, these properties may change after the launch. T...
متن کاملMER Spirit rover localization: Comparison of ground image– and orbital image–based methods and science applications
[1] During 6 years of continuous operations on the Martian surface, the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Spirit has covered a traverse of approximately 7 km from the landing point to its current position at “Troy” near Home Plate. Localization of Spirit (and Opportunity) has been performed using two different methods: one that employs an incremental bundle adjustment (IBA) using rover imagery, and ...
متن کاملAnalysis of Hyperspectral Imagery for Oil Spill Detection Using SAM Unmixing Algorithm Techniques
Oil spill is one of major marine environmental challenges. The main impacts of this phenomenon are preventing light transmission into the deep water and oxygen absorption, which can disturb the photosynthesis process of water plants. In this research, we utilize SpecTIR airborne sensor data to extract and classify oils spill for the Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Horizon (DWH) happened in 2010. For t...
